Head Coach of the Virginia Cavaliers, Michele Madison, enters her 15th season as head coach. Coach Madison led Virginia to its first ever ACC Championship in 2016, and ‘Hoos have been a force to be reckoned with ever since. Fresh off of their 2019 NCAA Championship semi-final game appearance, Virginia is looking to earn its third Final Four appearance in as many years this coming season.
The impressiveness of Coach Madison’s resume is unrivaled in the field hockey world. She is the only coach to lead three different field hockey programs to the NCAA tournament. She has recruited and coached the only three-time NFHCA player of the year. She is one of two active Division 1 coaches to be a part of US Olympic coaching staffs, including as the head goalkeeper coach for the 1996 team in Atlanta.
Coach Madison left Michigan State as the field hockey program after 13 years as the all-time leader in wins (’93-’05).
She helped guide the Temple Owls squad to 3 NCAA Tournament berths while at Temple (’90-’93)
Coach Madison is a Rutgers alum, where she played both field hockey and lacrosse. She owns a Master’s Degree from the University of Iowa. Additionally, Coach Madison is also in the Hall of Fame for several different organizations, most notably, the National Field Hockey Coaches Association.
