Guest Bio
Kate Nye is on track to be perhaps the most prolific weightlifter in U.S. history. Nye has already achieved the distinction of youngest U.S. Women’s World Weightlifting Champion. She has only been weightlifting for three years, but at the most recent Pan American championships, Nye swept the gold medals with a 112 kg. snatch, 136 kg. clean & jerk and 248 kg. total.
She is currently the reigning junior and senior world champion in addition to being named the 2019 International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) Lifter of the Year. No other athlete, male or female, from North America or South America has ever won a world weightlifter of the year award in the decades long existence of the distinction.
Despite being only 20 years old, last year Kate was included in the Forbes’ 30 Under 30 Sports list for U.S. Olympians. In preparation for the recently delayed 2020 Olympics, Kate has been getting in 6-8 workouts a week with at least one fully dedicated rest day. She has been focusing on squats, deadlifts and presses in her strength building pursuits.
Nye is a former gymnast, softball player, and Crossfit athlete. She transitioned to Olympic lifting in her later teenage years. She is currently enrolled at Oakland University and she lives in Oakland Township in Michigan. Nye is only the fifth U.S. Women’s World Champion ever.
